The Royal Oak Education Association > District Savings Ideas
We Want Your Ideas!

The district has said that reductions in funding from Lansing will call for drastic cuts to district programs, directly impacting quality instruction for our students. However, the ROEA is convinced that creative thinking can find ways to trim spending or raise new revenue to reduce any negative impact on learning and other educational and support services we provide students.

Members, here is your chance to offer us your thoughts. The best ideas will be published here for review, discussion, and presentation to the district for more formal consideration. Let us know what you think! And then, when you have new ideas, come back and offer more!

 Some Ideas We've Received!

  • Phase out textbooks where possible to replace with online texts.  Literature, for instance, is now often free online.  Partner with Boys and Girls Club and ROPL to have classroom sets of books on reserve for students to use for study.  In other words, reduce the wear on existing texts and phase out costly new ones.
  •
  • Reveal the savings from an Early Retirement Incentive. [Note:  Done!  Here is our PPT explanation of district savings!]
  •
  • Drop mediators and lawyers in the bargaining process and resume face to face dialogue.
