“Not giving is giving up.”
It is never too late to contribute to PAC.
Your donation is needed now more than ever! As noted repeatedly, every decision that affects our teaching profession is a political decision. Our PAC money goes directly to legislators that protect and promote education, locally, statewide, and nationally. These politicians are screened and endorsed by our unions. Your contribution will go towards Republicans and Democrats, and religious issues are not considered. I recently attended a bargaining conference, and a PAC chair from another district stood and asked the crowd for some suggestions on how to get his members to contribute to PAC now, at a time when even our political friends in office are proposing changes that would take away our benefits. In the audience was Iris Salter, the president of the MEA. Her response was, “PAC money gives us an opportunity for our voice to be heard. Not giving is giving up.”
You are valued, and your voice needs to be heard. We all need to do our part, and reaching into our wallet or writing a check to PAC is one way to show we care about the future of our career. Call or email your state legislators. Get involved in the upcoming elections. The MEA lobbyists cannot do it alone. Everyone needs to step up to be politically involved. Do this for yourself and your family, and the future of education. Do this to show your professionalism, activism, solidarity and leadership.
THANK YOU to our members that have already contributed to PAC this school year. Many of our members on the Executive Board make repeated contributions at MEA and NEA conventions. They represent us well.
Your PAC contribution is needed now more than ever. I am counting on every member to make our PAC Drive a success. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at garlakb@royaloakschools.com.
